Water Testing

How Often Should I Test My Water?

Once isn't always enough. Here's when to test, when to re-test, and why your water can change.

When You Should Definitely Test

  • When you move into a new home — you don't know the water's history
  • When the taste, odor, or color changes
  • After any plumbing work or pipe replacement
  • If you're on a private well — at least annually
  • Before buying any filtration system — always
  • After installing a system — to confirm it's doing its job

If You're on City Water

City water is monitored and treated, so a baseline test when you move in is a smart start. After that, testing every few years — or whenever something seems off — is plenty for most homes. The city's report tells you about the system; a tap test tells you about your home.

If You're on a Well

Well water isn't monitored by anyone but you. Annual testing is the standard recommendation, and more often if there's heavy rain, flooding, or nearby construction. Well water can change quickly because it's not treated before it reaches you.

We test both city and well water across the Valley — see our well water testing in Fowler and nearby communities.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you're on city water and nothing has changed, testing when you move in and every few years is reasonable. Test right away if you notice a change in taste, odor, or color, after plumbing work, or if you're on a well. We also re-test after installing a system to confirm it's working.
